Bacteriostatic Water is sterile, non-pyrogenic water that contains a small amount of benzyl alcohol (0.9%) to inhibit bacterial growth. It’s commonly used in research and medical settings to dilute or dissolve peptides, hormones, and other compounds before injection. The added benzyl alcohol allows the solution to be stored and reused safely for up to 28 days after opening, unlike sterile water for injection, which is single-use only.
